Our history

Italpollina spa is a modern and innovative company, but doubtless its strength comes from the reliable historical roots it has.
The company was created in the 70s by Cav. Licinio Bonini, who has worked successfully in the agro-zootechnical field since 1953. Italpollina spa arose because Mr. Cav. Bonini, understood two serious problems that were affecting the Italian zootechnique and agriculture at that time: On one hand the disposal of animal dejections from breeding farms and on the other hand the steady decrease in biological fertility of agricultural soils. Very far sighted – he anticipated by over 40 years the present concepts of sustainable development – the innovative idea he had was: To use, after suitable industrial treatments, the zootechnical dejections coming from breeding farms to produce a fertilizer, which increases the chemical, physical and biological fertility of soils. Nowadays, this idea seams to be obvious, however at that time it was almost science-fiction!
Actually the realization of this intuition has not been easy. Long and complicates studies and researches were required to select the best row material and especially to plan an adequate production plant (at that time there was nothing similar).
The selection of the row material was poultry droppings, which, according to many comparative analysis with other materials – led, in cooperation with the best Research Institutes and glamorous Italian and Foreign Universities – resulted to be the best from the chemical, biological, and agronomical point of view.
However to identify the best row material and to become the most skilled expert in poultry droppings, in all aspects, was not enough; thus, at the end of the 60s he had to cope with the most complex part of the design: The creation of a new productive technology to transform the poultry droppings into the innovative fertilizer that it is still nowadays.
It took four years of researches, experimentations, production and building material tests before achieving the first design for the poultry droppings processing plant.

In 1973 in Rivoli Veronese (VR) it was built the first pilot plant for production of “Pollina integrale compressa (PIC)” (Whole Compressed Poultry droppings). Immediately this new organic fertilizer has been very successful all over Europe.
But this success improved the research to achieve new ambitious targets.
Even if the existing one was considered the best technical solution, new researches were led to plan a new production plant. Emblematic was in this context the sentence Cav. Bonini said to his cooperators, who thought that improving the existing plant was not possible: “Now only, that we are sure the dehydration plant works as we want, we can think to design a better one”.

It was another success. The new plant Italpollina, thanks to the very modern technological innovations and to the electronic system for control of production parameters (such as temperature, humidity, etc.), allowed the achievement of a further quality improvement of the end-product.

Italpollina always focused its industrial philosophy on a steady improvement and thanks to the utmost exclusive technologies all over the world it can increase the value of each characteristic or positive feature of the row materials employed (selected with great care) and to reduce and limit within the lowest levels the potentially negative factors. For this reason we never had to reach compromises to reduce production costs through quick but also degrading processes as well as we never had to adduce easy alibis in biological processes to hidden any unability or unwillingness to behave industrially correctly and trustworthy with our customers.

During the 80s Eng. Bonini gave new impulse and made the company grow further. Eng. Bonini understood that it was time to extend the range of products and to make Italpollina an international company. Many researches and experimentations started to produce also other solid organic fertilizer, which could satisfy at best the many agronomic requirements of farmers, besides the “glorious” PIC (compressed whole poultry droppings). Bio-Rex, Guanito and Phenix were the results; they are mixtures made of organic fertilizers and are still employed successfully. We started producing the innovative vegetable liquid fertilizers such as AUXYM (phytostimulant based on vegetable extracts from tropical plants).
Under the leadership of Eng. Bonini, Italpollina, had an uncomparable growth and could spread its activity on the main European markets (France, Germany, Spain etc.) and in Southern America and Northern Africa. The company is now the European leader in production of organic fertilizers.
Unfortunately in 2001 the story of Italpollina was marked by a very serious event: The premature death of Eng. Bonini. In his memory, Italpollina, instituted in 2002 the competition, held every two years, for young researchers “Nello Bellini prize”, awarded for research and experimentation activities on subjects connected with the organic fertilization of soils. This initiative aims at confirming the great importance that Eng. Bonini gave to Research and young researchers. This “travel in the past” shows how Italpollina has always operated to supply to the agricultural world the best products for fertilization of soils in the respect of environment, natural biological cycles and standards imposed by the strictest rules of the sector. A company like this cannot be created because it is into fashion, it can only be the result of many years of work, research and investments. Unfortunately the sector of fertilizers always suffered from improvisations, thus, the market is periodically invaded with products realized according to fashion. The activity of Italpollina, as a whole, always developed, independently of these cycles, according to the strict qualitative criteria and to the results of deep technological and agronomical researches. As topical as never before the saying coined by Cav. Bonini more than forty years ago:
